Dr. Sheri Voss, assistant professor of Literacy, and three students in the master's degree program in B12 Reading Literacy presented at the New York State Reading Association (NYSRA) 2024 Conference, held in Albany in November of 2024.
Their session, "Forward Together with AI: Enhancing Comprehensive Literacy," showcased artificial intelligence as a transformative tool for teaching and learning. The presentation to educators, literacy experts, and scholars highlighted how AI can personalize learning, support diverse student needs, and enhance engagement in the literacy classroom.
In praising the presentation, Keith Newvine, president of NYSRA, said, “You just presented to world-renowned scholars who had never heard of these AI tools before, and they are going to go back to their classrooms to use it and promote it, all because of you.”
The three master's students who presented with Voss earned their bachelor's degrees from SBU in May of 2024 and expect to earn their MSED in B12 Reading Literacy this May. They are Adrienne Honaker of Buffalo, who earned a BSE in Inclusive Childhood and Early Childhood Education; Faith Pingie of Bradford, Pennsylvania, who earned a BS in Education, Adolescent Education, and a double major in History; and Genevieve Homac of South Wales, New York, who earned a BS in Education, Adolescent Education, Students with Disabilities, with a History concentration.
